I’m Robert Mealing, a designer, teacher and researcher in Oxford. I use generative AI like any other tool: I set the brief, direct the work, edit everything and check it. Every tool I use is credited.

What I have made
The Cunning Folk Cards
A 54-card interactive deck about England’s village healers and charmers, drawn from 127 researched sources. I directed the design and structure of the content and website, and edited and fact-checked the content, working with Claude under a written verification rule.
The Spiritus Loci codex
Writing, photography and sound on the spirit of place, laid out as a codex. I wrote, photographed and designed it, with the generative tools I used credited in the colophon.

How I work
I set the brief and the structure. I edit and fact-check everything. Claude drafts and writes code, and I test and approve it. Midjourney, Suno and DaVinci Resolve come in when a project needs images, animation or music. I credit every tool I use.

Images
Writing a good prompt could be compared to casting the perfect spell, the right words in just the right order to make something magical happen. It takes more than imagination and luck, it takes practice and an understanding how AI interprets a well-structured prompt to effectively achieve the best results.
Animation
Everyone loves a beautiful image, but when pictures move they can tell stories that affect us on a human level. Whether joyful, humorous or thought-provoking, animation brings the message to life.
Music and film
A picture might tell a thousand words, but creating music adds another dimension that, when combined with compelling visuals, takes the message to the next level.
